Goals for the year

Being rather impressed that tchernabyelo has set himself (rather ambitious) goals for the year, I wondered which goals I would set myself, were I so inclined.  Top of the list would be to find more funding for work.  This actually breaks down into several options.  One is to gain renewal of the knowledge transfer projects that currently pay my salary, which is probably achievable.  Another is to get different projects funded, especially research projects.  This would be harder, as I'd be starting a research career from more-or-less scratch, but it would probably be more enjoyable and possibly more secure.  There are a couple of possibilities that might work out in this area.  A third option would be to find a new job, once OGF20 is out of the way.  All of these need me to make a good job of running OGF20, as this will be a major achievement for the CV (not to mention being a big achievement just to get everyone talking together to make it happen!).

On the domestic front, I want to get the flat into a saleable condition.  This is for psychological reasons - it means we can have a plan B in case the funding doesn't come through and I need to chase work elsewhere.  Just having the possibility will stop me worrying so much.  Also, the flat will be more homely, so we win both ways.  Fortunately this goal doesn't require a vast amount of work. We just need to replace one carpet and to do some odd jobs here and there.

Also, I'd like to travel less, so I can spend more time with the family and not disrupt them so much.  I suppose I could consider goals for Michael's development but basically I just want to keep plugging on.  The school set goals for him and that's good enough for me.

I've been listening to more new music recently and I'd like to keep that happening.  Finally, I'd like to play more games.  That's not likely to happen, because the preceding goals won't give me the time!
