This is very, very funny.  Mark Thomas plays havoc with the bureaucracy around the banning of unlicenced demonstrations in Parliament Square and gets into the Guinness Book of Records.  This system is political incorrectness gone mad.

Now that Michael is 8 (coming on 9), he's able to go on longer (and higher) walks than we've attempted hitherto, so I've bought a book to help us find some suitable trips.  Actually, I've bought two books: one of the Pentland Hills and one of walks around Edinburgh itself.   Some of the walks are still a little long but we can always try shorter sections of them.

Today we climbed the Caerketton and Allemuir hills , just above the dry ski slope at Hillend.  For the first part of the way this follows the Capital View Walk, which does indeed give a superb view across the city and the Forth to Fife.  It felt strange to be looking down at Arthur's Seat, which usually raises high above us as we go about our daily lives.  Higher still we had excellent views south over the rest of the Pentland Hills.  Allemuir Hill is 495m (1620 ft) above sea level, so although the walk was only three miles we got a fair bit of exercise from the climbing.

I like to think that today's walk will be good practtce for Michael, preparing him for longer walks in the future.  If truth be told, Mrs. Henry the Cow and I need the practice too.  It's been a while since I did any serious walking.

After this trip, I also need new walking boots because my very old pair fell apart as we were coming back down!  A trip to Tiso's is in the offing.
