Why fingerprint readers are not secure
May. 9th, 2008 01:11 pmThis excellent piece by Kim Cameron literally illustrates the problem with using fingerprint readers to "prove" your identity to a computer. As Kim says, someone can fairly easily copy your fingerprint, so possession of the fingerprint does not prove "possession" of the actual finger.
Kim is highly-respected for his work on how computers should manage our online "identities". Many of his posts are rather technical but this one is quite straightforward.
