Health update
Jul. 22nd, 2007 10:24 pmI seem to be back to full health, if not quite fully fit. I went swimming twice last week and swam 18 lengths each time, compared to the 24-30 that I was managing before my heart failed. I don't have any problems walking into work or around town. I haven't climbed any hills yet but I can run around a field playing football with Michael. I can drive OK - I've felt the pacemaker kicking in when we've been on day trips, which is reassuring. I still get a bit more tired than I used to - for example, I had a nap this afternoon - but not drastically so.
This is what the consultants told me in the hospital - that I'd be able to do all the things I did before. They also said that there is no reduction in my life expectancy, which is very reassuring! I'm not sure I quite believe that yet.
I'm not pushing myself as much as I used to. I am strictly limiting my caffeine intake; if I get tired after that I know that I need rest rather than more stimulants! I've never been a heavy drinker but I'm drinking even less than I used to because it always makes me tired the following day.
So it's good news, basically.
