An afternoon spent in bed, alternately dozing and reading an old favourite space opera. I hadn't realised just how tired I was. There was the excitement of a first week at work, followed by cooking for the book circle yesterday (and tidying up afterwards, which is the part that keeps us up late!).
Culinary-wise, I want on a personal retro theme, revisiting several Indian recipes that I first cooked in the 1980's. The main dish was a mild curry, which caused my only real concern of the day. The original recipe called for chicken but I was cooking for vegetarians, so I then faced the question of exactly how many butternut squashes are equivalent to nine chicken portions? (The answer seems to be three). Everyone seemed to like it, which is good. My only real mistake was being too parsimonious when peeling the melon - too many crunchy bits got into the dessert. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.
