Can anyone advise me on a good choice for cheap earbuds?
Recently I tried a pair of in-ear buds - the Philips SHE8500. For a cheap pair of ear buds from Currys, they are pretty good - as long as I'm not sitting down. So for work, or on the train, they're fine. But when I'm walking, every brush of the wire against my coat is magnified in my ear, which makes for poor listening! Also, the asymmetric wire tends to catch on things; sometimes this would pull the buds out of my ears, which was even more annoying.
So I thought I'd try another pair of in-ear phones but with added ear hooks. The last time I tried ear hooks they were really uncomfortable but reviews suggested that the Philips SHS8000 were hardly noticeable. They are indeed pretty comfy, but unfortunately the sound is nowhere near as good as the cheaper pair. There is almost no bass. Now, I'm not the sort of bass hound that drives around with a humongous subwoofers in the car (and not because I don't own a car ;-)), but if I'm listening to reggae, for example, I'd like to have some idea of what the chap with the four-string guitar was playing. It is, after all, a rather key part of the music.
So, does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not looking for hi-fi quality, just a pair of ear buds that give me reasonable sound while I'm walking around and that stay in place.
